OVERVIEW

We will begin an unforgettable excursion through 12,000 km² of fantastic landscapes of salt and surrealist landscapes of the deserts and the colored lagoons of the Eduardo Avaroa Reserve.

The dazzling white mantle of the Salar de Uyuni resembles an immense glacier. In winter (dry season, from May to October), when the surface hardens, geometric shapes appear formed by the salt particles agglomerated in polygons.

In summer (water season, from November to March) the saline desert becomes a giant mirror that melts into the sky of the purest blue color you’ve ever seen before.

Today we will have an unforgettable trip through 12,000 km² of fantastic salt landscapes. Prepare your camera! The dazzling white mantle of the Salar de Uyuni (or Thunupa) resembles an immense glacier.

In winter (dry season, from May to October), when the surface hardens, almost geometric shapes appear formed by salt particles agglomerated in polygons. In summer (water season, from November to February) the saline desert is transformed into a gigantic mirror that melts into the purest sky in America.

We will enter the salar by Colchani, where we will know the salt processing and salt mounds. Once on the vast surface of the white desert, we will visit the salt hotel, the eyes of water and head to the center to visit the Incahuasi Island, of volcanic rock and giant cactus and a peak that, when climbed, becomes an extraordinary viewpoint of the plain white salt

Then we will head north, in a route of several kilometers towards the Thunupa Volcano, whose skirts we will access to visit the Pucara de Ayque (Pre-Columbian Ruins), with excellent views, the Mummies of Coquesa and the Mirador de Thunupa, which we will ascend in the drive up near its crater for a breathtaking view of the Salar, in all its splendor.

Today we will visit Isla Pescado, before heading to Mala Mala Bay, at the opposite end of the Salar, to head to Cueva Galaxia, a place where we can appreciate ancestral burials and petrified cacti. Today we will visit Isla Pescado, before heading to Mala Mala Bay, at the opposite end of the Salar, to head to Cueva Galaxia, a place where we can appreciate ancestral burials and petrified cacti.

To the south are the Cañapa, Hedionda, Chiarkota, Honda and Ramadita lagoons, where a large number of flamingos, of the three species existing in the area, will be seen and photographed at will. Other birds, such as gulls and Andean geese, accompany the flamingos in these lagoons flanked by eternal snow volcanoes that, when descending, have a green skirt (straw brave, yareta and thola) to finish in the ocher colors that the winds have been drawing for millennia. , or in the rare colors coming from the borax and sulfur of these strange lagoons. At the edge of one of them we will have a picnic lunch.

At dawn we will go in search of the well-known Sun Geysers of Tomorrow, we will arrive to them with the first rays of light. This will be the highest point of the route, about 5 thousand m.s.n.m. The cold is intense. Noisy fumaroles and pools where the earth seems to boil in reddish, grayish and scarlet mud can be traversed by us on the same banks. The desert and salar of Chalviri is another landscape of great scenic value that combines the white of the snow, the ocher of the desert, the blue of the water and the white of the borax. In one of its corners we can take a bath in Termas de Polques and enjoy a delicious breakfast in the open air.

As we move away another large extension will open to our front: the Valley of the Ladies of the Desert, masterpiece of the wind and the Andean peaks with perfect details in shapes and colors, of rocks that have resisted the wind. And almost as an excess, to leave this desert valley, we will visit Laguna Verde, at the foot of the Licancabur Volcano.

We will arrive at this lagoon just in time to see how its waters turn from the emerald color to a more opaque green.

In return we will stop for lunch at the Laguna Colorada, main nesting center of the three species of flamingos and whose algae and plankton activated by solar radiation and wind give pink color to both the lagoon and the legs and part of the plumage of These exotic birds.

In the distance we can admire the Stone City, which is located in the Soniquera region; of whimsical and often artistic forms of gigantic stones that have resisted the wind leaving it to do, like a thousand-year-old sculptor.

Already in the final stretch of the trip we will visit the authentic village of Culpina K, which has made an effort to present itself to the visitor with its ancient urban values.

We will say goodbye to the last llamas and vicuñas, who will have accompanied us
